How do IB PYP students get assessed?
IB PYP follows a continuous assessment approach instead of traditional exams. Students are evaluated based on:
- Formative Assessments: Ongoing evaluations through projects, activities and discussions
- Summative Assessments: End-of-unit reflections and student presentations
- Student Portfolios: Collection of their work showing progress and understanding
Will my child be able to shift from IB PYP to other curriculums in higher grades?
Absolutely! IB PYP builds strong conceptual foundations that help students succeed in any curriculum. At Modern School, students seamlessly transition from IB PYP (Grade 5) to ICSE in Grade 6 while retaining key IB skills like critical thinking and independent learning.
As a parent, can I visit a classroom to see how IB PYP teaching works?
Absolutely! We understand that choosing the right learning environment for your child is a big decision. At Modern School, we warmly welcome parents to experience a real IB PYP classroom in action—to see the joy of learning, the curiosity in children’s eyes, and the way teachers guide them through discovery and exploration.
If you’d like to witness this engaging and child-centered approach firsthand, we’d love to host you! Simply reach out to us at +91 95549 33337 or admissions@modernschool.org to schedule your visit. We look forward to sharing this journey with you!
Is there an entrance test for admissions?
For Early Years, admissions are based on an interaction session.
For Grades 1 and above, students may be required to take a written assessment, followed by an interaction with the school principal.
What are the school timings?
Summer timings for Grades Nursery to UKG are 8:30 AM – 12:40 PM and for Grades 1 to 12 are 7:30 AM – 1:40 PM
Winter timings for Grades Nursery to UKG are 9:30 AM – 1:40 PM and for Grades 1 to 12 are 8:30 AM – 2:40 PM
Is there a deadline for admission applications?
Admissions are granted on a first-come, first-served basis until seats are filled. At Modern School, we maintain a small class size of only 25 students to ensure personalized attention and a happy learning experience for each child. Due to this, seats are limited. We encourage parents to apply early to secure admission for their child.
What is IB PYP and how is it different from traditional curriculums?
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) is a globally recognized curriculum for students from Nursery to Grade 5. It focuses on:
- Inquiry-based, student-centered learning
- Conceptual understanding instead of rote memorization
- Development of thinking, research, communication, self-management and social skills
- Encouraging students to become independent and lifelong learners
If my child is currently in a different curriculum, can they switch to IB PYP?
Yes! Students from other curriculums (ICSE, CBSE, etc.) can transition into IB PYP. Our teachers are trained to support new students by helping them adapt to the inquiry-based learning approach.
Are the teachers well-equipped to deliver such a program?
Our teachers undergo rigorous training and continuous professional development to effectively implement the IB PYP framework. They participate in IB-certified workshops, regular skill-enhancement sessions and collaborative learning programs to stay updated with the latest inquiry-based teaching methodologies.
Beyond their qualifications, our educators are deeply committed to nurturing young minds, fostering curiosity and guiding students to become independent thinkers. Parents are also welcome to interact with teachers during orientation sessions, classroom visits, and PTMs to understand their approach and expertise.
